My Commitments

Engagement with Integrity, Accountability & Transparency
Integrity First: Embedded as a core value in every decision made by your elected officials.
Weekly Open Access: The Mayor or a Councillor will be available weekly to hear community concerns directly through regular one to one contact and respond to your emails in drop in office hours.
Direct Feedback Box: A suggestion and question box will be maintained at the District Office, reviewed weekly, and responded to by Council or District staff within 2 weeks.
Annual Surveys: A basic survey will be sent to every home to track how Council and staff are meeting your needs via your utility bills and then can be dropped into the district office or mailed in.
Expense Accountability: Full transparency on all expense claims for Mayor, Council and District. It is your tax money being spent and redacted expenses should be available for public inspection without FOIP
Reduce External Consulting: Utilize district staff expertise, meaning funds go directly to essential services.
Accessible Meetings: Bi-weekly Council meetings will vary in times to accommodate resident availability and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
Beach Avenue Volunteers: Launch a volunteer program for community engagement to keep Beach Avenue inviting, saving tax dollars and allowing District staff to address other key municipal areas.
Youth Volunteer Programs: Reduce social isolation of seniors and develop Intergenerational Connection.
Community Safety & Environmental Protection
Fire Mitigation & Evacuation: Prioritize community fire safety alongside a fully communicated evacuation plan, aiming for two exit routes for homes wherever possible.
Safe Routes: Install paths along Ponderosa, Princeton and Trépanier to support safe walking and cycling. Minimizing cost and expediting completion by using gravel and concrete barriers.
Enhanced Lighting: Increase solar or motion activated street lighting along primary transit routes and Beach Avenue so the promenade can be enjoyed safely during the winter evenings.
Dedicated RCMP Coverage: We pay for four full time RCMP officers; we need one of these dedicated to working directly with us to maintain local safety and develop community empowerment.
Review bus service: To ensure it is meeting our current community needs.
Watershed & Lake Protection: Establish clear, factual answers on community water capacity and protect our watershed before next summer.
Rainwater Harvesting: Offer water barrels to households at cost to collect winter precipitation—potentially saving over 400,000 to 800,000 gallons of water annually for garden irrigation.
Ethical & Responsible Planning & Development
Infrastructure Before Growth: Fire mitigation, water, sewage, services, roads, and egress issues must be resolved before approving further high-density housing. Infrastructure to precede population growth.
Downtown Revitalization: Prioritize downtown development on the waterfront from 1st Street to The Gasthaus. Support year-round tourism by encouraging up to two boutique hotels (maximum of 3–4 storeys for developer viability) with community consultation. Explore historic circa-1909 Canadian architectural facades to showcase “Historic Peachland” with metal roofs for longevity and fire safety.
Open for Business: Active promotion of Peachland as a vibrant, year-round destination for commerce and tourism increasing our foot traffic for businesses and restaurants.
Targeted Commercial Development: Encourage a spa resort and golf course at originally planned locations, paired with shuttle/bus routing to bring visitors into the downtown core.
With Kindness,
Gail your Mayoral Candidate
